L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted the forum “Credit Without Illusions: Opportunities, Risks and Responsibility,” dedicated to financial literacy among young people. Experts from the banking sector, Fingramota.kz and law enforcement discussed with students how to use loans and banking products safely, how to assess their debt burden properly and how to build a personal financial strategy. Particular attention was paid to fraud, money muling, personal data protection and how anti-fraud systems work. Participants were also introduced to the Finkelisim.kz platform, which helps people settle overdue debts owed to multiple creditors.
Lyazzat Tolegenkyzy, Vice-Rector for Social and Infrastructure Development at ENU, stressed the importance of developing students’ skills in financial planning and critical thinking, as well as a responsible attitude toward personal finances, especially amid the rapid growth of the digital economy.
Aigul Kanatbayeva, Head of the Fingramota.kz project at the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market, emphasized that financial literacy is becoming one of the key skills for young people. In her words, it is important not only to know how to use financial products, but also to evaluate information critically and recognize fraudulent schemes in time.
The first part of the forum focused on credit literacy and the responsible use of financial products. Andrey Grinenko, Executive Director at ForteBank, explained how to choose banking products, how to use cards and loans safely, and why it is important to study the terms of a loan carefully and assess one’s own financial capacity before taking it out.
Financial expert and blogger Batyrkhan Yelemessov focused on the practical side of credit literacy: what to pay attention to when taking out a loan, how to allocate income, build savings and develop a personal financial strategy.
Participants were also given a separate presentation of the Finkelisim.kz platform. Aigul Kanatbayeva, Head of the Fingramota.kz project, explained that the service is designed for people with overdue debts to multiple creditors. Through the platform, they can submit an application to settle their debt and receive a single repayment schedule.
The second part of the forum was devoted to financial fraud, money muling and personal data protection. Bagdaulet Ospanbayev, a representative of the Astana Police Department, spoke about the consequences of taking part in fraudulent schemes and the risks of becoming a money mule.
Assel Sadvakassova, Head of the Antifraud Analysis and Support Group at ForteBank, used the bank’s own experience to explain how anti-fraud systems work and what mechanisms are used to detect and prevent suspicious transactions.
Participants also reviewed real-life fraud cases and discussed practical ways to protect their personal data and finances.
To close the event, Fingramota.kz presented awards to the participants of the financial quiz video contest. A total of 10 entries were submitted, and the best of them are planned to be shown nationwide. The videos have also been published on the project’s Instagram page.
